Patients with difficulty in handling a medical consultation in Japanese

In accordance with Mitsui Memorial Hospital’s policy to ensure responsible and effective medical care, patients who have difficulty in handling a medical consultation in Japanese are required to be accompanied by someone who can serve as their interpreter during all their outpatient consultations and, if they are hospitalized, around the clock during their hospital stay.
Patients are personally responsible for arranging for their interpreter, who must be 20 years of age or older and capable of translating medical matters.
Please note that if hospital personnel judge that your interpreter’s skill levels are insufficient to ensure safe medical care, you will be required to arrange for a professional medical interpreter at your expense. We can also provide you with information on medical interpretation service (fees required).

Consultations for non-residents

We accept non-residents as outpatients only when we judge that they require immediate medical response and we are capable of providing the necessary medical response.
Consultations for non-residents require advance confirmation with the departments concerned. Please contact the below in advance without fail:
Tel: 03-3862-9111 (Japanese only)
E-mail: INTERNATIONAL*mitsuihosp.or.jp(replace * with @, and convert full-width to half-width when sending e-mail; Japanese and English only)
Even if non-residents are accepted as outpatients after confirmation, an immediate or same-day consultation may not be possible in some cases. If Mitsui Memorial Hospital is unable to provide medical care that is adequate for non-resident outpatients, they may be referred to another medical institution.
In conformity with the Japanese regulation on medical fees, non-resident outpatients are required to pay 8,800 yen for their initial consultation as a specified medical care coverage fee.
* Non-residents who wish to have a medical consultation about their previous illness or other non-acute illness at Mitsui Memorial Hospital during their stay in Japan are required to obtain a medical visit visa before their departure for Japan.

Consultations: presentation and photocopy of passport/identification document

In accordance with our policy to ensure patient safety, we require non-resident outpatients to present their passport, of which we make a photocopy of the necessary pages. We also require persons accompanying non-resident outpatients (to serve as their interpreter, for example) to present their proof of identity (official document with an identification photo) and provide their emergency contact information, from the standpoint of patient privacy protection. We may be required to verify the status of their stay in Japan with public authorities if it is deemed open to doubt.
